How does Finland sound at Christmas, where does Santa Claus live and are there really elves?? In the songbook "Christmas in Finland immerse yourself in new worlds of sound, sing along to Finnish poems – for the first time in German translation – to folk melodies, learn interesting facts about the composers and poets and feel like going for a walk in untouched nature in the snowy forest, leaf through the book and sing along or simply listen to the accompanying CD to the book while baking cookies.

The songbook "Christmas in Finland contains an accompanying CD, which is realized by 8 musicians (from Vorarlberg, Switzerland and Finland), so that the Christmas songs, which now for the first time in German tell of what moved Finnish people (at the time of origin of the songs) at Christmas and still moves.
A well-rounded listening experience that makes you want to sing and re-sing the songs, perform them with a choir or just enjoy them in the warmth of your living room with the candles flickering.

The realization of the accompanying CD as a wonderful addition to the super-beautifully designed songbook.
I would like to address everyone who likes Nordic music or loves Finland, who teaches music, who likes to make music, who leads a choir or who knows someone from Finland to whom they would like to give the book.

But still, it helps a lot to understand music, if you can read notes.

And because the piano keyboard is actually the easiest to explain, let’s have a look at it.

In movies, American Christmas always looks colorful. Kids here look forward to Santa Claus, not Santa Claus – But how do families in the U.S. actually celebrate Christmas??

Noise is the most frequent cause of neighbor disputes. 40 to 60 percent of Germans feel inconvenienced by this, depending on the survey. At least there are some clear rules for noise protection. Thus, the night’s rest basically lasts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The usually two-hour noon quiet period applies between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., depending on the city and municipality. The use of lawn mowers or leaf blowers is also clearly regulated; their use on Sundays and public holidays is generally prohibited. On weekdays, for example, lawn mowing is permitted in residential areas until 8 p.m.

Brewmaster Heinz Krause opens the old door. Already with the entrance one feels almost as into another world transferred. The eye does not know what to grasp first. There is historical equipment from the brewing and brewing trade on display: interesting pieces side by side, lovingly assembled and carefully arranged.
"This is our showpiece", says the brewmaster proudly, pointing to what at first glance appears to be an inconspicuous installation. He explains: "This is the smallest functioning brewery in the world, which of course can really be used to brew beer. It creates a beer output of just 500 milliliters."

Brewing rights since 1491

The Forderverein Brauer- und Buttnermuseum opened the museum in 1995. "We want to keep up the tradition of brewing beer, after all, barley juice has been brewed here in the village since 1491. At the same time we want to inform about the beer production and represent the centuries-old brewing tradition from brewing-historical view", says the brewmaster, who would like to see more interest in the museum – as a valuable piece of local and cultural history.
One is particularly proud of a splendidly dressed up beer wagon with old wooden barrels. "This will be exhibited at the Kirchweih this year. But the visitors can look forward to much more, namely to a virtual brewery tour and to the tasting with self-brewed hobby brewer beer".
In addition, the Kirchweihgesellschaft Weibenbrunn – with its chairman Bernd Redwitz – has once again put together a varied and attractive program.

When Prof. Dr. Florian Dombois 2006 his essay "Art as research. An Attempt to Design Your Own Manual" published, he could have guessed that his text would not go uncommented upon. In the end, he called for nothing less than an expansion of the traditional concept of science and knowledge. Because science is able to explain the world successfully, but not completely, there is a need for "art as research," wrote the Berlin-born professor, who now teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts. Images, compositions, plays or films should be considered equally important as research findings and carriers of -knowledge.

Even today, this text from 15 years ago is read as a kind of manifesto on artistic research. After "artistic research" had already been debated in Great Britain in the 1970s and in Scandinavia in the 1990s, the debate was now to be conducted in German-speaking countries as well. In Austria and Switzerland, universities approached the topic and developed appropriate structures. In Germany, on the other hand, there were some universities that began to develop ideas and small projects, but little happened structurally.

I allow myself to say this now. I think I’m allowed to do that, too, because after all, I live in Berlin. Mannheim, that’s a bit like a mini Berlin. There are magnificent buildings, a multicultural community, a "Little Istanbul" à la Neukolln, lots of creative drive and a pronounced gay and lesbian scene with pubs and clubs.

Mannheim is rough, but also rich in great diversity. Did you know that Mannheim has the second largest baroque palace in Europe after Versailles?? And the largest density of shoe shops in Germany? Chris Cosmo once sang:

While cleaning up my music library I came across some WMA files that I would like to convert to MP3 format. The whole thing should run as far as possible automatically in the background on my Synology NAS and require as little interaction as possible. For such a project you don’t necessarily need a paid software, because the whole thing can also be realized with ffmpeg. ffmpeg is provided by Synology directly with their NAS devices via the DSM operating system.
