A good Network is worth gold. This applies in the private as well as in the professional sector. By correct contacts new perspectives, business opportunities and cooperations often arise, which can pay off on different levels.
With over 500 million contacts LinkedIn the best circumstances, the Find the right contacts and build a strong network. In this article I would like to show you how to do it.
What are the requirements for network building?

Before we get different Strategies to build your network at LinkedIn, it is important to understand what the different degrees of contact At LinkedIn mean.
What do the different degrees of networking mean?
The people you are already connected with are your first-degree "contacts". Your network as a whole consists of these direct contacts, second- and third-degree contacts, and members who are in a LinkedIn group with you.
The level of contact you have affects how you can interact with these members. Let’s take a closer look at the different degrees:
Direct LinkedIn contacts
These are the people you are directly connected with. Either they have accepted your invitation or you have accepted their invitation. You can send a message directly to these members and get in touch with them.

These are the people who network with you through a direct contact. You can recognize them by the second degree icon next to their name and profile in the search results.
You can send them an invitation by clicking on "Network".
Third degree contacts
These members are linked to you through second degree contacts. Therefore, in the profile next to their name appears the icon for contacts of the third degree.
As soon as their full names are visible, you can send them an invitation directly via "network" as in the example above. If only the first letter of the last name is displayed, then this will not work. In this case you can only reach the relevant contacts via InMail contact.
With the Group membersr of your LinkedIn groups, you can LinkedIn message or connect directly in the group. LinkedIn members outside your network you can contact by InMail. This is a paid feature. Learn more about sending InMails here.
Tip: About the function "Nearby"you can quickly find people in your vicinity and network with them or. send them an InMail.

Expand your network and find the right contacts
Especially if you are new to LinkedIn, I recommend you to network with your existing contacts and friends. LinkedIn will then automatically suggest suitable new contacts for you to network with.
How to add friends, acquaintances and existing contacts
Make a list or table of all previous (business) contacts and write down the names of all people you have met professionally in the past. These can be customers, suppliers, bosses, employees, fans, business partners, student employees, friends from university and further education, etc. his. Go to z.B. just go through your resume in your mind and make a note of all the people who were relevant to you there and who you’ve already had something to do with.
The more personal, the better
I always recommend to use Boolean logic in the course of Contact request a short Message to write. The more personal, the better. Just start from where you last saw the person. Maybe you’ve been through something together, attended the same course of study, worked at the same company, etc. The more personal the message, the higher your chances of making a new contact even beyond your trusted network.
How to add existing contacts?

How to search for new contacts on the professional network?
The search in the business network offers you many more possibilities to search for leads, people with the same business fields, interests and professional stations. Let’s take a look at how this works.
Use the search function specifically
The next step for More contacts on LinkedIn is also easy: Using the search function (see screenshot) you will quickly find the right people if you enter your keyword there.
So finding suitable new contacts and leads on LinkedIn is easy. And yet again not. Because you don’t want to find just any people, but exactly the right ones!
Expand your network with the right contacts
First of all, you need to know exactly what makes these people tick and how best to approach them. You need to know what makes them tick and, above all, where their specific problems lie – because that’s exactly what you want to solve with your services, products and so on.

Search even more precisely with Boolean logic
The best way to search for the right new Contacts and Leads To search on LinkedIn, use the platform’s search filter in conjunction with Boolean logic. Boolean logic is an algebraic system in which relationships are represented using two variables called "true" and "false". In other words, you can combine or narrow search terms for detailed searches.
The best part is that you don’t have to upgrade to a premium LinkedIn account to get very specific search results. LinkedIn supports multiple Boolean search operators, each of which narrows or broadens your search in different ways.
Let’s take a look at an example of how this works:
Let’s start with a search where we combine two search terms with "and"
Connect search terms with "and
To get results that contain two or more terms in a list, simply add the word AND (in capital letters) between each word. Do you want to z.B. people who are interested in yoga and meditation, then just type in yoga AND meditation here.
Then all search results will appear that include people who have both terms in their LinkedIn profile.
Search for "This or That
To display results that include one or more terms in a list, simply separate the terms with the OR (again, in capital letters). For example, again as we just did, enter "yoga OR meditation" to search for people who are interested in or work in that field.
To exclude a particular term, simply do NOT add it in front of the keyword in question. When you have z.B. if you only want to address sole founders, then just enter a capital NOT in front of the CO for Co Founder. This way you exclude the co-founders. Then you’ll only be shown people who are the sole founders of a company.
Search can also be used to perform more complex searches
To find such a complex search If you want to search for more specific terms, you can use brackets combine.
For example, to find people who have "Founder or Founder" in their profile but are not their assistants, just type in "Founder or Founder and then NOT Assistant. This is how you find the real ones decision maker and not their assistants or secretaries.
You can also search for exact phrases
To search for an exact group of words like e.g. If you are looking for a title with more than one word, just close the word group with Quotation marks a.
Example: If you’re searching for content marketing, just type that in like I did here in the screenshot, so both words in quotes:
If you don’t put the quotes in, then depending on the search you will see people, jobs, etc. Display those who have either one or both of these terms in their profile. With the quotation marks you can then search even more targeted.
Search queries at the next level up
So far we have looked at searches in the general search bar. To start even more specific searches, you can use the advanced search Leverage from LinkedIn.
LinkedIn allows you to narrow your search to a specific area within a user profile (ex. B. on the job title or the company) and ignore the rest of the profile. There are two ways you can use this filter type:
To use the LinkedIn filters, click on "All Filters" at the top right of the search results page. You will then see this popup, so to speak, with all the filters for people search:
Now enter here your Search details in the corresponding field. Let’s take z.B. an, you are searching for the terms CEO and founder. Then enter them as you learned earlier in "Title", i.e. CEO AND Founder. Then click on "Apply" and LinkedIn will play the desired profiles for you.
Hint: You can use all of the above techniques with a free LinkedIn account to get targeted search results. However, LinkedIn limits the number of searches you can perform with a free account. For additional search filters and higher search volume you should upgrade to the Sales Navigator consider.
I hope you can do something with these search variants using Boolean logic! Just try it out, because it can save you a lot of time in your searches and at the same time you can search in a very targeted way!
Approach network building strategically
If you want to take a more organized approach to this and z.B, larger Outreach campaigns If you start with a simple list, then I recommend you to keep track of the progress in a simple list. Here you can then enter the people you found through the search, where you are in the communication right now, if there should be a follow up and so on and so forth…
Also, this will prevent you from writing to people you’ve already written to and had a negative response from. Two super ways to do this, which are also free, are Google Spreadsheets or Excel.
Before you create such a table, it is best to first write down a list of the details you want to follow up on. Then create a spreadsheet in a program like Google Spreadsheets or Excel and add the most important information: this is usually: the name, title, company or other demographic characteristics important to you and your search.
Then I would add when you made contact and whether there has already been a response. Also, if and when you plan to follow up. You can also add a column for notes. Z.B., if someone answers you and says, "Hey, please call me again at the beginning of next year!"
This way you’ll always keep track of what’s going on and be able to plan better.
