Among the minerals, the content of vital potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese is considerable. As with other leeks, leeks also contain many secondary plant compounds, which are responsible for the intense taste and smell.

The sulfur compounds, which have antioxidant and antibacterial effects, are particularly significant in this context.

Leek as a medicinal plant

Leeks are therefore not only interesting as a foodstuff, but are also traditionally said to have healing effects attributed. Leeks are said to be particularly successful in detoxification: they stimulate kidney activity and counteract the formation of kidney stones. It also stimulates digestive activity and accelerates the flow of bile. In addition, leeks are believed to have a helpful function in various bronchial diseases.

The substances contained in leek promote digestion, rejuvenate and regenerate, improve the performance of the liver, gall bladder and reduce blood sugar levels. Due to its high fiber content, poree cleanses the intestines, and its phosphorus content stimulates brain activity.
