1. The resume for an education
Every complete application includes a resume. Especially when you are just out of school and want to do an apprenticeship you don’t have the longest career behind you yet. Therefore, in this article you will find some suggestions to fill your resume in a meaningful way. In the resume, you briefly and concisely present your life stages to date on one to two pages of paper. Here you should think carefully about which stages of your life could play a role in your application for training.
Why is the resume so important??
Your resume gives the recruiter a good overview of the stages you have gone through in your life so far. From your resume, the recruiter can also see what skills and abilities you have already acquired. If, for example, you already had a part-time job delivering newspapers during school, a recruiter might conclude that you can manage your time well. The same applies to internships and hobbies.
When you write your resume, make sure that all the information you include adds value to the training position. For example, if you are applying for a job as a retail salesperson, and you have already had a part-time job stocking or stocking shelves and gaining experience with cash register systems, this will look positively on your resume. If you have mowed the lawn for your parents and neighbors and received some money for it, then this has no relevance for this training.

The tabular resume is so called because you list the most important stages of your life in a tabular format. It includes your schooling, work experience, internships, and your hobbies and skills. It should have a length of about 2 pages. If you have more than 5 years of work experience, the resume can be more than 5 years long. Extend 3 pages.
2. The tabular resume – layout and content
The tabular curriculum vitae is classically required in your job application. It gives a recruiter a quick and easy overview of your career so far. Everything you write in your resume is usually listed antichronologically. This means that you put the most recent data first and the older data further down.
To ensure that your application for an apprenticeship position has a uniform appearance, you should decide on one to a maximum of two fonts for the font and font size and use these in the cover letter, resume and all other self-written documents.
In the upper left corner of the CV you enter your personal data. Include your first and last name, address, phone number and email address. Information that you can, but do not have to, include is your marital status, your nationality and your date and place of birth.
To the right of the personal information, you will usually find your application photo. Although you do not have to include a photo in your application, it is still recommended, as it is always appreciated by recruiters. If you want to use an application photo, you should use a professional photo. Photographers have a good eye for how they stage you for a job application photo.
Now it comes to the main part. You can roughly divide this into educational and professional backgrounds. Under the heading "school career" you write which school you go to or which school you have attended. where you went to school, from when to when you attended school and which degree you graduated with which grade. For (school) internships you can create a separate section, if it makes sense not to write them in the section professional career. This would be the case, for example, if you have done several small jobs besides school and more than one internship. If you were to summarize everything here, the section would become too long and make the resume look confusing.
If you should record your internships in a separate section, stick to the examples we have already given you above.
The next category refers to your skills and qualifications. Did you study at school z. B. If you have taken a rhetoric seminar or a PowerPoint course, you can list these here. This section also includes your language and computer skills. This could then look like this:

Last, you can list your hobbies. Be aware that a recruiter can read your character traits from your hobbies. For example, if you write that you play soccer, it means to a recruiter that you usually have a strong ability to work in a team. However, if you state that you are a passionate skydiver, this could be interpreted negatively as a high risk-taker. Therefore, think carefully about whether and which hobbies you want to disclose.
Lastly, on the bottom right of your resume, put your first and last name again, as well as the place, date, and your signature.
3. What types of resumes are there?
Besides the tabular resume, which we have already described to you above, there is for example the handwritten or the detailed resume. They differ in the essential points from the tabular curriculum vitae, make other demands on you and allow the most different conclusions to be drawn about your personality. We would like to introduce both of them here.
The handwritten resume has become very rare. The biggest advantage of a handwritten resume is that the recruiter can draw conclusions about your personality from your handwriting.
In a handwritten resume you express what you would also express in a tabular resume. So you describe in a continuous text chronologically your school career, indicate which work experience you have already gained through part-time jobs or internships and describe your hobbies, language skills and computer skills.
Since not everyone has perfect handwriting, you should use a good ballpoint pen or fountain pen when writing a handwritten resume to avoid smudged lines. the paper you write on should be thicker than normal printing paper and neither lined nor squared. If you have trouble writing in a straight line, you can simply use a lined paper as a base.
When writing, make sure to leave enough space on the left margin so that the sheet can be punched. On the right side a margin of ca. two centimeters.
In the detailed resume you write a chronological flow text written on the computer. Divide your body text – similar to the tabular resume – into sections dealing with your personal data, education and training, internships, skills and qualifications, and hobbies. Above each section you put a heading, as in the tabular resume, indicating what this section deals with.
In the personal data section, as usual, include your first and last name, address, telephone number and e-mail address. You are free to specify your nationality, marital status, and birthday and place of birth.
In the next sections you will give the same information that you would give in a tabular resume.
Finally, in the detailed resume you should briefly and concisely describe your future plans and explain why you have chosen this path.
Another difference from the tabular resume is that you end with a greeting at the end, just as you do in the cover letter.
You should also sign the detailed resume at the end.
4. Gaps in the resume
As a rule, applicants are given three months in which they can reorient themselves and apply for a job without being considered "idle. Therefore, anything that exceeds this three-month period is considered a gap.
In many cases, however, you are not idle at all. For example, if you have spent half a year or a year abroad, you can write this in your resume. A longer stay abroad shows your intercultural competence.
Even if you have taken some kind of continuing education courses in the meantime, this urgently belongs in your resume. This includes, for example, an applicant training, a rhetoric course or z.B. Language courses.
Furthermore, caring for a family member or parental leave are valid reasons for "unemployment" and should therefore also be included in your resume.
The important thing here is that you remain honest. At the latest in the interview, the personnel manager will ask you about your gaps, and false statements can then be quickly exposed.
