Superscript and subscript characters and text in numbers on the mac

There are two ways to raise or lower text in relation to text next to it:

Signs high or low: In this method, the characters are set higher or lower and reduced in size, which is helpful when adding copyright or trademark symbols.

Adjust font line: With this method, you can precisely tune the placement of the text without changing the text size.

Superscript or subscript characters

Select the characters you want to superscript or subscript.

Click on the "Text" tab in the "Format" sidebar and then click on the "Style" button at the top of the sidebar.

In the Font section, click , then click the Font Line pop-up menu and select Superscript or Subscript.

Superscript numeric suffixes when writing

You can specify in Numbers that numeric suffixes (like 1. and 2.) should be raised while you write.

Choose "Numbers"> "Settings" (the "Numbers" menu is at the top of the screen).

Click on "Automatic correction" at the top of the settings window.

Mark the field "Superscript numeric suffixes" in the section for formatting.

Add icons for raising and lowering text to the toolbar

You can add buttons to the toolbar to quickly superscript or subscript selected text.

Select "Representation"> "Customize toolbar" (the "Appearance" menu is located at the top of the screen).

Hint: This option is not available in the "Appearance" menu in the Numbers toolbar.

Drag the "Superscript" or "Subscript" buttons to the toolbar.

Click on "Done.

If you want to remove the button again, select "Representation"> "Customize Toolbar" and drag the buttons away from the toolbar so they disappear.
