However, sharp-edged metal or plastic combs and tousling should also be taboo. The choice of hair elastics and hair clips is also a cuddly one. Too thin hair bands act like a knife and cut into the delicate strands. It is better to use soft, thick hair elastics and bands. Hair clips should be as wide as possible or made of plastic.

Care for more power in the hair

Hair care products are not magic, but good aids. Because they can make the hair grow not faster, but healthier. Many treatments and shampoos work with hair building blocks, such as keratin. Keratin penetrates deep into the hair shaft, cross-links the fibers like a support corset and thus helps the hair to become stronger and more resistant.

Which shampoo is the best?

To find the right care products, you need to determine your hair type. Dry and unruly hair needs a shampoo that moisturizes and smoothes, while oily hair needs a shampoo that is less greasy. If you are unsure about your hair type, ask your hairdresser.

A treatment a day keeps the scissor away.

Washing instructions for long hair

However, the best care products are useless if you do not know how best to wash your hair. Most shampoos are concentrates that want to be dosed sparingly. Lather it up with water in your hand and shampoo with it only the roots, the foam that is created is perfectly sufficient to cleanse the lengths as well. By the way: The word shampoo is not without reason derived from the Indian word "champo", which means "to massage". Massages stimulate blood flow to the hair roots and thus also the hair growth process. With the subsequent conditioner, however, the hair laws are exactly reversed. Save the hairline and massage the conditioner mainly into the lengths and the tips.

No Poo? Let hair grow without washing

One hears over and over again from Hollywood and its beauties that hair washing is bad for the hair anyway. Followers of the "no poo" trend swear by the hair’s own natural grease. It is said that after three to four weeks hair will appear in a new shine and stronger than ever. However, this is a cumbersome way and is immediately undone with the first shampoo wash. In principle, frequent hair washing is not harmful, as long as you do not over-care for your hair and overstress it by constant styling with heat (hair dryer, straightener, curling iron). So wash as needed. Who tends to greasy hair or feels uncomfortable, should be allowed to wash his hair every day, without fear of loss of shine. With a daily shampoo and very fine and rather greasy hair, use above all mild care products (preferably without silicones).

A hairy business: heat and styling

Styling is the friend of every initial hairstyle, but the enemy of healthy hair growth. Whether from the faucet, hair dryer or straightening iron, the heat that comes with it stresses the hair, dries it out and makes it brittle.

  • Therefore, wash your hair preferably with hand-warm temperature, for a little freshness and extra shine it may also be rinsed with real cold water.
  • If you don’t want to do without hairdryer, straightener and curling iron, you should use heat protection spray before styling.
  • There are also now high-quality styling appliances that dry and shape hair more gently, such as hair dryers with ionic technology or ceramic-coated straighteners.
  • When drying, blow dry from top to bottom in the direction of hair growth to smooth the outer cuticle of the hair.
  • With straighteners and curling irons, brisk work is recommended. Especially the ends of the hair should be exposed to the heat only briefly. When curling, it is therefore advisable to curl the hair starting from the roots.

Beautyfood: Nutritional supplements for faster hair growth

For a long time, biotin and silica were considered miracle cures for fast hair and nail growth. In the meantime, many former followers advise against the regular use of UV shampoos. self-medication again. Because once the body gets used to a high biotin or silica supply, it needs it. Therefore, seek advice from a doctor if necessary.

And whether nutritional supplements can help in the long term has not yet been proven. Therefore, rather avoid the risks and side effects, but also the costs that arise from unexplored growth promises, because it is certain that if you eat a healthy and balanced diet, you certainly do not have to worry about normal hair growth.

sun protection for the hair

Sun-kissed hair may look like a vacation, but in reality it is pure stress for the hair. UV rays attack not only the color pigments of the hair, but above all its substance. Rough, brittle and dull strands are also the result of too much sun. Those who use their Grow hair therefore protects them from the dangerous radiation. Hats and cloths are just as reliable as UV protection products. By the way, the same applies to heat.

Otherwise, unfortunately, only one thing helps to grow a magnificent mane: Wait and see and drink tea. Best by the way black tea. Like caffeine, it is also said to stimulate metabolic activity and thus hair growth. Good luck.

Caution, silicones!?

Silicone-containing shampoos now enjoy a bad reputation. They are not biodegradable, can cause allergies and weigh down and stick to the hair, so that care substances no longer reach the inside of the hair. About every second shampoo and about 90 percent of all conditioners contain silicones. For good reason. Because silicones enclose the hair like a film, make it softer and make it appear shinier.

However, this only shows on the surface of the hair. Hair experts nevertheless warn against demonizing silicones in principle, because there are certainly useful silicones for certain hair types. High-quality silicones are recommended, for example, for dull, curly or very damaged hair. Those with fine and oily hair, however, would be better off with silicone-free shampoos.

Silicones become particularly problematic for healthy hair growth when they are not water-soluble, i.e. cannot be washed out. The so-called "build-up effect" occurs when non-water-soluble silicones deposit silicone layer upon silicone layer. Therefore, you should make sure to use only hair care products with water-soluble silicones.

But how should the layman recognize this? A good guide are the endings of the ingredients. The suffixes -cone and -xane indicate silicones. Natural cosmetics with the BDIH logo are generally silicone-free.

If you want to save yourself the trouble, go straight for silicone-free products (z.B. Weleda Rosemary Shampoo, Kerastase Cristalliste Shampoo, Swiss O Par Milk and Honey Shampoo, L’Occitane Repair Shampoo). A silicone break with cleansing shampoos can also help.

In the list below we have listed the most popular and different silicones in a table:

Non-water-soluble silicones: Dimethicone, Cetearyl Methicone, Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Stearyl Dimethicone, Trimethylsilylamodimethicone, Cetyl Dimethicone

Water-soluble silicones: Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Lauryl Methicone Copolyol, Dimethicone Copolyo, Polysiloxane, Dimethicone copolyol/HWP, Hydroxypropyl
