Restore Windows 10 installation with on-board tools Step by step: How to undo your Windows 11 update
Those who are not satisfied with Windows 11 after the update can undo the upgrade with on-board tools, and return to Windows 10. We show step by step how to undo the update and restore your old Windows 10.
If you want to go back to the old version after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, you can do this up to 10 days after the upgrade without any problems.
When Windows 10 is upgraded to Windows 11, the operating system saves the old operating system installation and can restore it. This procedure uninstalls Windows 11 and restores Windows 10. No data will be lost and the operating system settings will be preserved. Of course, it is still a good idea to back up your computer before uninstalling it.
In this article we will show all the necessary steps to uninstall Windows 11 and in the image gallery accompanying this article we will explain all the necessary steps.

Consider system files for Windows 11 uninstallation
Uninstalling Windows 11 and thus returning to Windows 10 is not permanent. Ten days after the update to Windows 11 time Windows deletes the uninstall data necessary for a rollback. If users have manually deleted this data, returning to Windows 10 is also no longer possible. If you want to keep the update, you can delete the unnecessary rollback files manually via Disk Cleanup. This is done with "cleanmgr.exe" started. After starting, the button "Clean up system data" is pressed and after selecting "Windows Update Cleanup" several gigabytes of data can be released – however, as mentioned, the uninstallations of Windows 11 and the seamless return to Windows 10 are then no longer possible.
Uninstall Windows 11 via the system settings
Uninstalling Windows 11 can be done directly in the operating system itself. After starting Windows 11, the first thing to do is to go to the Windows 11 settings app. Microsoft has revised the look and layout of the menu items.
To restore Windows 10, the menu item "System" is required. After calling up "System", the menu item "Restore" can be found on the left side. Here are several integrated possibilities to repair Windows 11 or to uninstall Windows 11. Windows 11 can be removed from the computer using the "Back" menu item. The menu item is only active if the system files for uninstalling Windows 11 have not been removed. If the files are no longer available, the menu item is deactivated.
The next step is to select a reason why Windows 11 should be uninstalled from the computer again. If you do not want to enter a reason, you can simply click on "Other reason". Clicking "Next" brings up the next page of the wizard.
In the next step, the wizard offers to uninstall updates instead of completely uninstalling Windows 11. With "No, thank you", however, the wizard continues with the uninstallation. In the next step, the wizard informs you about the consequences of uninstalling Windows 11. The settings made in Windows 11 are of course gone after uninstallation. After uninstalling, the operating system is in the state before the update to Windows 11. However, all settings, data and apps are still available. With "Next" the wizard changes to the next page.
Who has changed his password in Windows 11, can not use the new password after the uninstallation, of course. The old password is necessary to log on to Windows 10. If the password has not been changed, but in Windows 10 it is still the same as in Windows 11.
Up to this point the wizard can be terminated with "Cancel", no changes will be made. If Windows 11 should really be uninstalled, the wizard starts the recovery of Windows 10 with the button "Revert to Windows 10".
From this moment on, the process can no longer be stopped or undone. Windows 11 is uninstalled and Windows 10 is brought back to the state where the operating system was directly before the update to Windows 11. After a few minutes, Windows 10 restarts, and users can work with the system as usual.

Reworking the uninstallation of Windows 11
If Windows 11 has been uninstalled from a computer, the first step should be to install the latest updates for Windows 10 via Windows Update. The wizard also displays quality updates for Windows 10 and allows them to be installed. Of course, it should be checked whether Windows 10 is still activated. This can be done by calling "slui.exe" can be done. Also the installed applications, drivers and the data should be checked.
If Windows 11 doesn’t start anymore: Repair or return to Windows 10
If Windows 11 won’t start after updating Windows 10, the uninstallation can also be done via Windows system repair. This starts automatically if the start of Windows 11 fails three or four times. In this case Windows automatically starts the repair of the operating system.
To uninstall Windows 11, the menu item "Troubleshooting" is selected. The repair of Windows 11 is then carried out with "Reset this PC". However, Windows 11 is not uninstalled, but restored to the default state. If Windows 11 is to be uninstalled, the option "Advanced options" is the correct menu item.
At this point, various actions can be performed to repair Windows 11. But if you want to uninstall the operating system and restore Windows 10, select the menu item "Uninstall updates".
To uninstall Windows 11 and restore Windows 10 the menu item "Uninstall current feature update" is selected. On the next page, the process can be started with the "Uninstall feature update" button. After that the wizard uninstalls Windows 11 and restores Windows 10. The procedure for this is the same as the uninstallation via the Windows 11 settings app explained above.
