Love for your country

Translated from French, the word means "love of country". (Originally it is derived from the greek word "patriotes" and that means "someone who comes from the same sex").) Instead of love of country, you could also say "emotional attachment to the cultural and historical values and achievements of the people in which you live". A patriot often has a particularly close relationship with the symbols of his country, such as the anthem, flags, medals, certain festivals that commemorate historical events. Patriots exist in all countries of the world.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." – John F. Kennedy

Often this sentence of the former American president Kennedy is quoted, who appealed with it to the patriotism of his compatriots. The readiness to perform and the willingness to sacrifice of the citizens should be strengthened by it.

Exaggerated patriotism

Wrongly understood patriotism, which allows only the own nation to be valid and devalues other nations, is called nationalism. It is often associated with arrogance and arrogance towards people of other nationalities. Such an attitude can lead to serious disturbances of coexistence within a state, but also within the community of states.

Your questions.

I would be very happy if you would write something about the German Revolution :)

Hello Coronabi2021, we assume that you are interested in the revolution of 1848/49. This revolution was an expression of a German-national movement that wanted to create a unified German state. A liberal and democratic constitution should also be achieved. For this purpose in May 1848 in the Pauluskirche in Frankfurt a German National Assembly met, in which elected representatives of the German countries sat (at that time there was still a united Germany). However, the delegates did not succeed in coming to grips with the numerous problems and differences of opinion. After the initial terror, the old rulers struck back: the liberal constitutions, some of which had already been enforced in the individual countries, were revoked and the democratic rights that had been enforced were taken back. Above all, the Prussian king refused the crown of a German empire offered to him, because he did not want to be crowned by representatives of the people. Parliament was expelled from Frankfurt and dissolved, many deputies had to go into exile or ended up in prison.

Hello Pueopie, please look under this term in this encyclopedia. There we have explained what nationalism is, and also what distinguishes nationalism from patriotism.
