What should I include in my internship resume??

A complete resume should include

  • Your contact details
  • A professional application photo (optional)
  • A complete listing of your educational and academic career
  • Your practical work experience (incl. internships and part-time jobs)
  • Your foreign language skills

What types of resumes are there?

When you’re putting together your application for an internship, there’s one crucial question you need to ask yourself first: What kind of resume is actually expected? There can be two answers to this:

Tabular resume

  • All information in bullet points
  • Very clear, quick to read

Detailed curriculum vitae

  • Information presented as continuous text
  • Deeper and more personal insight into your life

Today, however, no employer actually requires a resume in text form any more and usually only the tabular CV is requested. If it is not explicitly stated otherwise in the job advertisement, you should always attach a tabular CV to your internship application.

Resume for internship: Chronological or antichronological?

If you have opted for the tabular CV, you must in turn include choose between two different types: the chronological and the antichronological resume. Chronological means that you list the stages of your school and academic education as well as your previous practical experience in the order in which they took place.

With an antichronological resume, also known as an American resume, you do exactly the opposite: you start with the most current station and then move backwards through time from top to bottom.

You are probably wondering now which of the two types is better. Unfortunately, there is no universal answer to this question. The antichronological structure makes sense in that the more recent educational backgrounds, activities and jobs are placed at the top and are thus emphasized more. However, this is only really important if you have already gained some practical experience – this is usually not the case when applying for an internship.

The decision whether to use a chronological or antichronological resume is therefore entirely up to you. Whichever you choose, you will have no advantages or disadvantages as a result of your choice.

Resume formatting

The right formatting: How should my resume look like??

As mentioned at the beginning, the resume is the heart of your application. The personnel manager or. the recruiter should be able to get a quick overview of your person, your skills and your experiences. What is DIN 5008?

DIN 5008 sets rules for writing and layout (u. a. The font size, font style, margins) for word processing are fixed for business documents. This includes applications. Font size and font type in the resume

A fixed font is not specified in DIN 5008, but you should choose a plain, sans-serif font. These include Helvetica, Georgia, Arial, or Calibri.

As font size the standard specifies 12. Most fonts are geared towards this size and are therefore perfectly legible.

The header of the resume: Which personal data should I include??

Above the tabular resume is always written the heading – there you simply write "resume". Some also write "Curriculum Vitae" (Latin for curriculum vitae).

Then follow your personal data: First and last name, address, date of birth, cell phone or landline number and e-mail address. you can also mention your marital status and nationality, but this is not a must. Also an application photo is not mandatory, but is gladly seen. If you want to add a picture to your resume, it’s best to put it to the right of your personal information.

How do I indicate my school and academic history?

After your personal data follow the information about school years and studies. If you went to college or. you are still a student, you should split this point into two parts:

School career: Here you list the schools you attended. Also, write with which degree you left school.

Academic career: Here you do it basically the same way as you did with your school career. From when to when did you attend which university and what did you study there? Should I list my foreign language skills on my internship resume??

Foreign languages, especially English, play an increasingly important role in today’s working world. However, it is not obligatory to mention your foreign language skills in your CV. Whether you do it or not should depend on the job you are applying for.

You should indicate your language skills if ..

  • … it is explicitly expected in the job advertisement.
  • … you think that foreign language skills are important for the job/company.
  • … your foreign language skills are particularly noteworthy and they set you apart from other applicants.

If you have decided to indicate your language skills, you can still consider whether you want to do it in a separate category or under "Special skills". If you know that foreign languages are important for the job, the answer should be clear: Make sure to highlight your skills in a separate category and put them in the spotlight!

Special skills in the internship resume: What do I include here??

You have a gap in your resume? You are not alone in this. On the contrary, many people have the problem that there were times in their lives when they did not go to school or university and did not work, do an internship or further their education. Basically, however, it can be said that one speaks only from a duration of two to three months of a gap – anything less than that may have been, for example, an extended vacation or a period of professional orientation. No employer will be surprised.

But even if you have one or more gaps of more than three months in your resume, that’s no reason to panic. You only have to Give a good reason why you haven’t been doing anything during that time. Am I allowed to lie about gaps in my resume??
