To create an animated or static gif with adobe premiere

When we save our video files on our computer, in case we want to edit them, a suitable program is required. Probably the most popular is Premiere , an enormously complete application developed by mudbrick. What is Adobe Premiere and what is it for?

The application has a very complete interface that can be personalized and organized into different workspaces to develop the different editing stages. It is characterized by supports almost all video formats as well as RAW formats. It allows us to work with audio, color, graphics and effects in addition to the video itself, and export the results to various formats and devices.

One of its possibilities is to be able to make a GIF , both animated and static. These elements can later be inserted in forums, social networks or sent via or instant messaging. Although it seems to be a complicated task, it can be easily done in a few steps

What types of GIF can we create with Premiere??

When we talk about GIF, we are talking about a Graphic Interchange Format whose origin dates back to 1987. These files consist of a series of frames that follow each other and are reproduced in the form of a loop and for a short time without sound, usually between 5 and 10 seconds. The GIF format is characterized by allowing transparencies, which allows us to achieve animation effects that occur in fractions of a second and have the feeling of movement.

Since the advent of the Internet, the use of GIF files has become enormously popular . Especially with the presence of the first smartphones on the market, which contribute to its expansion and make it a more effective form of expression than text and photography. In addition, it is very often used within Business marketing . Companies see GIF as an element that can attract attention through various visual effects.

One of the main advantages over other multimedia media, such as videos or images, is that it is a very easy format . In addition, it supports a maximum of 256 colors and is very dynamic, so it’s a kind of combination between image and video formats that can bring the best of both together.

With Adobe Premiere video editing software we can save make two different types of GIF , both animated and static. The animated GIF is known to be formed by image sequences that create a low frame rate video effect. Whereas the static GIF is just a normal digital image.

Create a GIF easily with Adobe Premiere

To create a GIF with Adobe Premiere, you must first have the application installed. To use it you will need to pay a subscription from 24.19 Euro per month . As a trial version we can download one free version for 7 days from their website .

Create an animated GIF

To create our animated GIF, you must first go to Adobe Premiere and select the "File" tab a "New Project create. we need to give the project a name as well as the place where it should be located.

Once our project is created, we return to the "File" tab and select the "Import" option. From here we will Select the video we want to use Convert to an animated GIF. After inserting, we need to drag and drop the imported video from the project section into the Timeline Section .

Next we access the "File" menu again and this time select the "Export" and "Media" options or directly use the shortcut Ctrl + M. In the new window at the bottom left in the "Origin Interval" section we select "Whole Clip". If we want to select a sequence of the video, we select "Custom" and adjust the duration in the lock the sequence that we will use to create the animated GIF. If we click the "New Project" button in the upper right corner of the "Format" section we need to check the option "Animated GIF" select.

Now we’ll go to the "Video" tab and select the Desired width and height for the GIF (or leave it as it comes by default) and enter the frame rate (for example, 10 fps). Finally, all we have to do is click "Export" click to convert our original video file into an animated GIF file.

Create a static GIF

If we want to create one static GIF, We need to go to the menu "File and select the "Import" option select and choose the video on which we want to create a video static image of a frame and click on "Open. Once we have added the video to our project, we need to get Drag & drop Drop on the timeline .

Next, we return to the section "File" back and click on "Export and "Media. In the next window at the bottom left in the section "Origin Interval" we choose "Custom" and use the slider Choose the frame you want capture as GIF.

In the upper right part of the "Format" menu we choose the "GIF" option. In the "Video" section we write the dimensions we want in the Width and Height section or we leave the default. Finally, click "Export" to save the static image of the selected video frame in GIF format.
