Venice Airport Transfer – the world famous lagoon city, with at last count well over twenty million visitors per year, is easily accessible due to its geographical position on the edge of the Adriatic Sea. Tourists arrive by car, buses of all kinds, train, cruise ships or plane.
Venice itself is car-free and the journey itself ends for all means of transport in a parking lot, bus or train station or at the cruise terminal. For all means of transport, see this article. Only the airports through which you can fly to Venice are located a little outside on the mainland and require an appropriate airport transfer.
Venice airports
For a direct journey by airplane to the world famous lagoon city there is two Airports.
► Venice Tessera – this is the international commercial airport and also the main airport of Venice. The official name is Aeroporto Internationale Marco Polo di Venezia , named after the Venetian merchant Marco Polo, who in the 13. He lived in the seventeenth century and became known mainly for his trip to China. The airport code is VCE and the official address is Viale Galileo Galilei 30, 30173 Venezia VE, Italy. The airport, which handles 10 million passengers a year, is located on the mainland, right on the lagoon and ca. 8 km as the crow flies north of the tourist center of Venice. Venice Tessera is served by all known airlines from Italy and abroad. Some low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizzair or Laudamotion, also take their passengers to Treviso Airport, which is a little further away.
► Treviso airport – which is also known as Venice-Treviso marketed is often the destination of well-known low-cost airlines such as Ryanair or Wizzair. Aeroporto di Treviso ‘Antonio Canova’ is an airport near Treviso in northeastern Italy with the official address Via Noalese, 63E, 31100 Treviso TV, Italy. The airport code is TSF . The distance to the center of Venice is about 40 kilometers by road.
Several means of transport facilitate the transfer between the airports and the center of Venice. The transfer is simple and clear, here are the different options.
Airport transfer from Aeroporto Marco Polo di Venezia
Transfer by land
► Stress-free with the ATVO Express bus – this classic airport transfer will take you in 20 minutes to the Piazzale Roma , that is the central bus station of Venice, from where you can reach Venice on foot or with public transport , in advance Tickets possible to go further to the tourist center of the lagoon city comes. Airport buses also go to the train station for guests planning an overnight stay or a stay outside the center of Venice to Mestre , a suburb of Venice located on the mainland. The same applies to sun worshippers with the destination point Lido di Jesulo .
► city buses – The urban bus line 5 of the company ACTV is not cheaper than the ATVO Express Bus , more time consuming because of several stops, often very crowded and rather impractical for travelers who are mainly traveling with luggage. Tickets can be purchased in the airport entrance hall or at the ticket machines on site, and then presented or validated on the bus. The buses, which are not to be confused with the above mentioned ATVO Express buses, can also be recognized by the colors orange or green and white. The trip goes from the airport to the Venetian bus station Piazzale Roma. They run several times an hour and the Trip lasts approx. 35 to 45. Minutes. This is a typical city bus with many passengers and numerous stops along the way. You have your luggage with you during the trip.
► cab – For the approximately 15 to 20 -minute ride over the 13 km route from the airport to Piazzale Roma or the cruise terminal, you pay about €40.00. For smaller groups of 4 to 5 people, it is also worth booking an individual Cab transfers .
► Shared taxi – More expensive than the bus transfer, but cheaper than private cab or waterway transport is the shared cab (€15.00), which is also a convenient way to get directly from Marco Polo airport to Venice city center.

Transfer by waterway
► water taxi – the Venice trip already starts with an extraordinary experience, because the arrival by water is always the most beautiful way. A shared transfer takes you comfortably in a fast motorboat to several piers on the Grand Canal. You may have to wait a short time at the airport dock, be sure to book in advance . All the important details are on the site of the provider.
► Private water taxi – Exclusive, classic, comfortable, romantic and of course a bit expensive is the journey to Venice with the private water taxi. The trip on the lagoon directly from the airport to the hotel with a first view of Venice takes about 30 minutes. The price for a private water cab is for 1 to 6 people.
► Public Alilaguna boats – The cheapest boat trip can be enjoyed for a long time, because many stops, departure every 30-60 min. Fixed timetable. It can take 1,5 hours to get to St. Mark’s Square. Those who need to get to the cruise terminal but have time must use the blue route. Airport transfer from Venice Treviso
For the transfer from the airport Aeroporto di Treviso-‘Antonio Canova’ to Mestre or Venice center, there are three options:
► Public transportation by bus and train – Time-consuming, impractical with a lot of luggage, stressful in the heat, more difficult in terms of organization – but also inexpensive. Bus line 6 goes regularly from the exit of the airport building to the train station of Treviso in 15 to 20 minutes. Here you can change to the regional trains to Mestre or Venice Santa Lucia. Easy ticket purchase at the ticket machine. Bus and train together cost about 6,00 to 7,00 € for one person per way. Larger luggage on the bus only with extra charge.
► Taxi rides – For the classic cab ride to the center of Venice, 75,00 € should be enough.
► Express buses – Comfortable, fast, practical and also not too expensive is the transfer with the express buses to various destinations. Departure directly from the airport. Details see at the provider. Journey times vary seasonally and depend on flight arrivals. It is best to book the tickets for the express buses while you are still at home.

Parking in Venice
Venice is car free. For those arriving by car or rental car, the huge suburb of Mestre with its 200.000 inhabitants or in a very small part at the center of Venice end. There are huge parking garages here with parking costs from 25,00 to 30,00 € per day.
Tip: About parking in Venice, there is also an additional very detailed article in the transportation section – Parking in Venice
It is cheaper to park the car on the mainland (5,00 to 15,00 € for 24 hours). Then to the accommodation in Mestre or continue to the center of Venice by cab, bus or train. The buses and trains that cross the bridge from the mainland to the center of the lagoon city are inexpensive at € 1.50 or 2.00. Parking garages and parking lots are often full, so it’s best to always book in advance, for example right here via parclick.
Parking on the mainland is cheaper, but please don’t forget the luggage transport, which sometimes has to be done in crowded buses and trains. So possibly consider booking an overnight stay in Mestre and commute cheaply to Venice every day. All less romantic, you lose maybe an hour a day, but save a lot of money.
My Tip: Parking in the new, modern and huge parking garage Tronchetto – Isola Nova del Tronchetto, 33/m, 30135 Venezia VE-, not far from the old town center. Short trip (3,00 €/ hr.) and long term parking ( 20 to 25 € / 24 hrs. ) possible. Also suitable for motorhomes, smaller buses and the like. Direct connection to public transport (water bus line 2).
Arrival by train
Getting to Venice by train is easy. The last stop on the mainland is the suburb of Mestre, then it goes directly over the bridge to Venice to Santa Lucia station.
From there you can immediately get on the vaporetto boat, i.e. the water bus, or continue on foot towards your accommodation and the most important sights.
Transfer to the cruise terminal
For those who want to get from the airport to the cruise terminal, there are all the airport transfers that end at Piazzale Roma (photo). From there you can get for a small fee (nothing is free in Venice!) to the terminals at the Stazione Marittima .
The transport is done with the ‘People Move‘, a driverless funicular that permanently shuttles between Piazza Roma and Tronchetto station (photo). Who with its luggage safe, comfortably and fast from the airport to the cruise terminal can already in advance here a private transport book.
Venice Airport Transfer – What to do next?
Whether by car, bus, train, land airport transfer, or cruise ship, those who arrive in Venice’s historic center at Piazza Roma, the adjacent Santa Lucia train station, or the not-too-distant cruise ship terminal must start their Venice trip on foot or by the public water buses continue.
Here you can find all necessary information and booking possibilities. Transfer prices to the airport are basically not in the Single and multi-day tickets of public transport are included and must always be solved separately .
